A total of 1,000 meals costing ₹5 each will be served every day at 100 Atal canteens being set up by the Delhi government, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Friday.
In her first budget speech in March, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had earmarked ₹100 crore for establishing such canteens. Ms. Gupta said on Friday that locations for all 100 Atal canteens have already been identified and asserted that they will be inaugurated on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 25.
The responsibility for running these centres will be assigned to selected organisations, she said, adding that the government will provide subsidies to ensure meal quality.
“An inter-departmental committee has already approved recommendations on site selection, menu, distribution system, and management framework. The menu will include dal-chawal (lentils and rice), vegetables, and roti (bread). Each centre will serve 500 meals in the morning and 500 in the evening,” Ms. Gupta said.
