B.R. Patil, Vice-Chairman, Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission, said that district planning reports must be submitted to the committee before the budget is prepared. He directed all districts in the Mysuru division to submit their reports by December 15.
Speaking after chairing the progress review meeting of the eight districts of the Mysuru division at the Zilla Panchayat here on Thursday, Mr. Patil said that although decentralisation has been accepted in principle, meetings of the district planning report preparation committee must be held regularly. He emphasised that the reports should prioritise sustainable development, GDP, and the Human Development Index (HDI).
He underscored the need for officials to thoroughly review existing conditions while preparing district-level plans, focus on the district’s pressing issues, and ensure that schemes do not overlap.
To improve the Human Development Index, Mr. Patil said that plans must be drafted based on available grants while keeping in mind the positive outcomes expected after implementation.
Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar stated that taluk-level planning committee meetings, chaired by the respective MLAs, were held from November 4 to 15 across the nine taluks of the district. A report will be prepared and submitted after the district-level meeting, he added.
Mandya Zilla Panchayat CEO K.R. Nandini said that the district plan is being drafted with a key focus on sustainable development in sectors such as education, agriculture, and nutrition.
Basavaraju S., Senior Director of the Planning Department, made a presentation on achieving human development and sustainable development, highlighting districts that have shown greater progress, sectors that are lagging, and the methods to effectively implement projects.
Government Secretary Raman Deep Choudhary, Chief Executive Officers of Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Chamarajanagar, and Mangaluru districts, along with taluk and district-level officers were present.
