The Bahour police station in Puducherry has been listed as one of the 10 best police stations in the country in the Annual Ranking of Police Stations for the year 2025.
As per the assessment by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ghazipur police station in East District Delhi tops the ranking of best-performing stations in the country while the Bahour police station in the Union Territory (UT) bagged the eighth rank in the list. The ranking by the Ministry is an attempt to bring advanced reforms in the functioning of police stations in the country, said a police officer.
In the initial assessment process, a few dozen police stations were shortlisted from over 17,000 odd stations in the country, and the final ranking was based on criteria that included crime statistics, overall maintenance of law and order, and better management of crime against women, crime against weaker sections, crime resolution, and service delivery.
Apart from the aspect of crime control, the MHA also looked at the infrastructure facilities, cleanliness, approachability, and behaviour of police personnel while selecting the best stations. “The shortlisting is based on a diverse set of performance criteria. The criteria include crime prevention measures, efficiency in investigation, case resolution, and crime detection. The evaluation also incorporates feedback from regular service users such as local residents and traders,” he said.
Last year, the Bahour PS, bordering the neighbouring Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, received ISO 9001: 2015 certification for maintenance of law and order, prevention of crime, investigation, and management of crimes.
