Bajpe, Kinnigoli Town Panchayats to go to polls on December 21

The Election Commission has declared polls to Town Panchayats of Bajpe and Kinnigoli in Dakshina Kannada on December 21.

The elections will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The counting of votes will be held on December 24. Both panchayats are under the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate.

The Bajpe Town Panchayat, which has 19 wards, will have 19 election booths, while Kinnigoli Town Panchayat with 18 wards will have an equal number of booths.

The last date to file nominations is December 9. The nominations will be scrutinised on December 10 and the last date for withdrawing nominations is December 12.

If re-polling is required, it will be held on December 23.

The code of conduct will be in force in the jurisdiction of the two town pancyayats till December 24.

Of the 19 seats in the Bajpe Town Panchayat, seven seats are reserved for women. In the Kinnigoli panchayat, six of 18 seats are reserved for women.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday announced its candidates for all the wards of two town panchayats.

It may be mentioned here that the Congress won in the recently held first-ever elections to the Kadaba Town Panchayat in Dakshina Kannada. It bagged eight out of 13 seats. The BJP won five seats.

The elections were held on August 17 after Kadaba became a taluk headquarter.
