Senior journalist Bandu Kulkarni has been elected as the new president of Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ) unopposed.
The announcement of the election was made by election officers Manojkumar Patil and C.P. Mayachari late on Sunday night after counting of votes for polling held for the election to 15 posts of executive committee members was completed.
As the candidates were elected unopposed for the posts of president, general secretary, treasurer, State committee member, vice-presidents and secretaries, polling was held for 15 posts of executive committee members as 25 candidates were in the fray.
After the counting of votes, the election officials issued certificates of election to those who were elected unopposed and also, to the newly elected executive committee members.
Those who were elected unopposed are: Bandu Kulkarni (president), Guru Bhandage (general secretary), Tanuja Naik (treasurer); Basavaraj Kattimani (State executive committee member); Basavaraj Vijapur, Shivanand Gombi, Prakash Chalageri (vice-presidents); Shivashankar Kanthi, J. Abbas Mulla and Prasanna Hiremath (secretaries).
The executive committee members are Raveen Pawar, Hemaraddi Saidapur, Basavaraj Hiremath, Vijay Hugar, Roopa Kodad, Irappa Naikar, Iranna Kanakikoppa, Basavaraj Yaribail, Mnajunath Angadi, Kashappa Karadin, Kallappa Mirji, Ranganath Kamatar, Deepak Talawai, Azeez Ahmed Balaganur and Mahesh Naregal.
Out of the total 303 eligible voters, 280 voters exercised their franchise in the polling held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During counting, six votes were declared as invalid.
