Several large banners put up across Tiruchi by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) cadres ahead of Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru’s birthday on November 9 are being removed following his request to keep the celebrations low key.

The banners, which carried images of Mr. Nehru along with messages from party workers, were prominently displayed at various important locations across the city. These included near the District Court Complex, the MGR statue, Major Saravanan Road, Sastri Road, Bharathidasan Salai, Megastar Theatre, and Puthur, among other areas.

Following the Minister’s fiat, several banners were turned around, and some are being taken down entirely. Mr. Nehru has appealed to DMK members, party volunteers, and the public not to gather at his residence or the party office and to refrain from organising any public celebrations this year.

Official sources from the Tiruchi Corporation said several of the banners had been put up without obtaining prior permission from the authorities, which prompted their removal.
