Rajya Sabha member and National BC JAC chairman R. Krishnaiah and several other prominent Backward Classes (BC) leaders have expressed their anger at the State government, accusing it of reducing their reservation from 42% to 22% through GO 46. They have taken strong objection to the issuance of the election notification for panchayat polls.

Demanding the immediate withdrawal of the GO, Mr. Krishnaiah observed a hunger strike to protest at BC Bhavan in Vidyanagar on Wednesday.

Mr. Krishnaiah termed the government’s action as cheating BCs. “Nearly 1,200 Sarpanch posts have been lost due to GO 46,” he said, adding that the main Opposition BRS had also pledged its support to BCs.

He called for peaceful dharnas and other forms of protests. Road blockades will be held on November 29 to intensify the protest over implementation of 42% BC quota in local body polls, including Gram Panchayat elections.

Several other leaders, including Vakulabharanam Krishnamohan Rao, Srikonda Madhusudana Chari, and film director R. Narayana Murthy, have also criticised the Congress government for issuing the GO.
