The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled a meeting with the men’s team management to outline a roadmap across formats and streamline communication between key stakeholders. The meeting will take place on Wednesday in Raipur, ahead of the second ODI between India and South Africa.
The Hindu understands the discussion is likely to involve BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and national selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar. It remains unclear whether BCCI president Mithun Manhas will attend. With the meeting scheduled for match day, the possibility of senior players being called in appears low.
A senior BCCI official confirmed the intent behind the meeting: ensuring alignment between selectors and team management to maintain selection consistency, improve individual development pathways, and enhance overall team performance.
“During the home Test season, there have been instances of confusing tactics on and off the field. We want clarity and forward planning, especially with the next Test series nine months away,” the official said.
The official also acknowledged concerns over communication gaps between the management and senior limited-overs players.
“India will be the favourite to defend the T20 World Cup next year and a strong contender for the ODI World Cup after that, so we want these issues resolved quickly,” the official added.
While no names were mentioned, the situation points to unease around dwindling communication between the management and senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Since announcing their retirement from T20Is last year and stepping away from Test cricket earlier in 2025, whispers of reduced dialogue between the duo and the current setup have grown louder with every passing month.
