The newly laid double line between Belandur Road and Carmelaram, along with the completely built Huskur railway station, has received authorisation for passenger train operations following an inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The approval marks a significant step forward in enhancing rail capacity on the busy Baiyappanahalli–Hosur corridor.

Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd. (K-RIDE) Officials said the CRS team carried out a detailed examination of the track, signalling systems, and station infrastructure before granting clearance. “The section has met all prescribed safety and operational standards, and its readiness for passenger movement,” a K-RIDE official said.

Official sources noted that the commissioning of the Baiyyappanahalli–Belandur Road and Heelalige–Anekal Road stretches will create room for expanding Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services, which are in high demand among daily commuters travelling between Bengaluru and Hosur.

According to officials, during the inspection,it is reported achieving a peak speed of 107.7 kmph on the newly constructed section. The K-RIDE recently rolled out 25 kV AC electric traction on the Belandur Road–Carmelaram double line and the loop lines at Huskur station, all under the Bengaluru Division. The upgraded infrastructure strengthens the operational capability of the larger Baiyappanahalli–Hosur route.

Although Huskur station will initially be earmarked for freight movement, officials maintain that it will eventually serve a massive commuter population. With the station located roughly 5 km from Electronics City, it offers a far more convenient option compared to Heelalige station, which lies nearly 10 km away.

Commuters and residents in the area believe the new station could significantly ease travel. Ravindra Rao, a resident of Electronics City, said Huskur’s opening is long overdue. “Huskur will be a game-changer for people working in Electronics City, Bommasandra and Veerasandra. Thousands of employees waste hours in traffic every day. The Railways must introduce a higher number of passenger trains on this line at the earliest; this route desperately needs frequent services,” he said.
