The city police on Sunday received a mail on their official address threatening to carry out a series of bomb blasts at Kempegowda International Airport and several major shopping malls in the city, which after verification was termed as a hoax.
An FIR has been registered against the unknown person on Sunday charging him under Section 66(F) (cyber-terrorism,) of the IT Act.
The email claimed that it was a warning from the āJaish-e-Mohammed White Collar Terror Teamā and threatened explosions at KIA, Orion Mall, Lulu Mall, Forum South Mall, and Mantri Square Mall from 7 p.m. onwards.
The person who mailed the email also gave a mobile number asking the authorities to call if they āwant to pay and not let this happen.ā The police conducted the SOP drill to check on the places mentioned before concluding that it was a hoax.
The police suspect that going by the content of the mail, the accused was trying to play mischief and also trying to implicate someone. The police have stepped up the investigation to track down the accused through the IP address.
