The Jnanabharati police are on the lookout for a quack and his associate for allegedly cheating a city-based software engineer ₹48 lakh by promising a cure for his sexual health issues, and later threatening him when he refused to pay more.

According to the complaint, the victim, a resident of Bengaluru, said he developed a sexual health problem after his marriage in 2023. He initially consulted doctors at a Kengeri-based multispeciality hospital, who conducted tests and prescribed medication.

However, on May 3, 2025, he noticed a roadside tent near KLE Law College advertising a “quick cure” for sexual problems. When he approached the tent, a man introduced him to one “Vijay Guruji”, who allegedly assured a permanent cure through “rare Ayurvedic medicines.”

“Guruji” reportedly examined him at the tent and asked him to purchase a so-called herbal product named “Devaraj Booti” from Vijayalakshmi Ayurvedic Store in Yeshwanthpur, claiming it was sourced from Haridwar and cost ₹1.6 lakh per gram. The victim was instructed to pay only in cash and not bring anyone along.

Believing the claims, the victim said he withdrew cash from home and purchased the medicine. The “guruji” later prescribed another product, “Bhavana Booti Taila”, costing ₹76,000 per gram, of which he bought 15 grams for ₹17 lakh with help from his wife and parents.

The quack also allegedly pressured him to buy more Devaraj Booti, warning that the treatment “would fail” otherwise. The complainant said he availed a bank loan of ₹20 lakh to buy 18 grams more.

He further stated that he borrowed money from a friend to purchase 4 grams of ‘Devaraj Rasabooti’, priced at ₹2.6 lakh per gram, paying another ₹10 lakh.

Despite spending ₹48 lakh, the victim said there was no improvement in his condition. Instead, recent medical tests reportedly revealed kidney damage, which doctors said could be due to unsafe substances in the consumed products.

When he confronted “Guruji,” the latter allegedly threatened him, claimed he needed more medicines, and warned him of “serious health consequences” if he discontinued treatment.

The victim has sought strict legal action against “Vijay Guruji” and the owners of Vijayalakshmi Ayurvedic Store for cheating, and threatening him, providing harmful substances, and causing severe health complications.

Police have registered the complaint and initiated further investigation.
