Bengaluru is set to host global experts on watershed development for the next three days as Karnataka government’s Watershed Development Department is organising an international conference on “Watershed Resilience: Integrating Science, Sustainability and Society” along with the World Bank and other agencies from November 26 to 28.

About 175 delegates, including watershed experts, policymakers, researchers and development practitioners, are participating in the conference that aims to strengthen the integration of science, policy and community action. The main intention of the conference is to contribute to national level projects such as PMKSY 3.0, enabling scale sustainable and climate-resilient watershed development practices in different watersheds of India and the world, according to organisers.

The conference, which will be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, is being jointly organised by the Department of Land Resources and the University of Agricultural Sciences- Bengaluru.

International experts such as Stanford Blade (ICRISAT), Giovanni Ruta (World Bank, East Asia & Pacific), Asim Biswas (University of Guelph, Canada), Gilles Boulet (Toulouse University, France) and Cheikh Amadou Tidiane Dia (World Bank, Congo) will share global best practices at the conference.

An one-day field visit is also planned to the Maidalakere Watershed in Tumakuru District, implemented under the World Bank – assisted REWARD Programme.
