Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of hatching a conspiracy to block former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s induction into the Telangana Cabinet.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, they said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy intended to include Mr. Azharuddin in the Cabinet in recognition of his services to the nation, but the BJP was making “unethical and conspiratorial attempts” to block his induction.

They reminded that BRS chief KCR’s daughter K. Kavitha herself had revealed the “secret understanding” between the BJP and the BRS. Both the parties are working together and desperate to defeat the Congress.

Mr. Vikramarka alleged that BJP had deliberately fielded a weak candidate in the Jubilee Hills bypoll, knowing well that minorities in the constituency would not vote for the party. “The BJP knows it cannot win Jubilee Hills. Its only aim is to help the BRS. We have information that BJP leaders are trying to influence the Governor not to allow him to take oath as Minister,” he said.

Mr. Goud questioned the BJP on double standards, citing the example of Rajasthan. “In Sri Ganganagar district’s Sri Karanpur constituency, BJP’s byelection candidate Surendra Pal Singh was inducted into the Rajasthan Cabinet 20 days before the byelection. If that was acceptable in Rajasthan, why object to Azharuddin here?” he asked.
