With Bihar going to polls on Thursday (November 6, 2025) for Phase 1 of the State Assembly elections, Opposition Mahagatbandhan chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav cast his vote at a booth in Veterinary College in Patna. He was accompanied by his family members, including his parents and prominent RJD leaders Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.

“I appeal to the youth to bring a change by installing a new government,” Tejashwi Yadav said.

After casting her vote, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi appealed to the people of the State to come out in large numbers and cast their votes. “I appeal to the people of Bihar to step out and vote and don’t forget your right to vote,” she said, speaking to ANI after casting her vote.

The RJD leader also extended her best wishes to both sons, Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, who are contesting from different parties. “My best wishes to both my sons. Tej Pratap is contesting on his own. I am their mother. Good luck to both of them,” she added.

Tejashwi Yadav’s sister Rohini Acharya exuded confidence that people will defeat the “double-engine government” this time.

On Tej Pratap’s contest in the first phase, Ms. Acharya said, “My blessings are with him. Do you not bless your siblings?”

“All people of Bihar should vote. Each vote is important,” Tej Pratap, the Janshakti Janata Dal president and elder son of Lalu Prasad, said after casting vote at Veterinary College Ground polling booth in Patna. He was expelled from the RJD earlier this year and formed his own party ahead of the elections

Tej Pratap, the incumbent Hasanpur MLA, is contesting from Mahua, a seat he first won in 2015 during his electoral debut on an RJD ticket.

While the RJD succession battle has long been settled in favour of Mr. Tejashwi Yadav, this phase will also decide whether his estranged elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, who floated his own outfit, the Janshakti Janata Dal, will be able to mount a challenge.

The first phase will also decide the fate of several senior leaders, including RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Mangal Pandey and JD(U)’s Shravan Kumar and Vijay Kumar Choudhary.
