BirlaNu, (formerly HIL Limited), a Hyderabad-based building products and services company and a part of the CKA Birla Group, has announced to invest ₹127 crore in setting up a new fibre cement board plant in SPSR Nellore district.
The greenfield project is likely to create 600 direct and indirect employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled talent in the region.
“The project marks an important milestone in BirlaNu’s expansion journey. Andhra Pradesh offers a compelling environment for industrial growth, supported by robust infrastructure and a progressive development approach,” Akshat Seth, managing director and CEO, BirlaNu, said in a statement on Saturday.
“This proposed facility will enhance our manufacturing footprints, address rising domestic and global demand for high-quality building materials and create meaningful employment opportunities. It underscores our commitment to responsible, innovation-driven growth. In phase-1, the company will invest approximately ₹127 crore in setting up a large-scale unit, the first of its kind in the State,” he said.
The plant will meet the increasing demand within the State and serve as a strategic base for regional and export markets. The facility will incorporate fly ash, a by-product from coal-based thermal power plants, as a key raw material, reducing industrial waste, lowering landfill needs, and advancing circular-economy practices.
The project is expected to spur the growth of ancillary and support industries, strengthening the industrial ecosystem in Nellore and its surrounding districts.
In Phase-2, the BSE-listed company plans to expand the site with additional units for PVC pipes and fittings, and construction chemicals, deepening its integrated manufacturing capabilities in the State.
