MUMBAI

With elections to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) due, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed four new general secretaries to its Mumbai unit on Wednesday.

Rajesh Shirwadkar, Ganesh Khaparkar, Acharya Pawan Tripathi, and Shweta Parulekar were appointed general secretaries of the Mumbai BJP, according to the official statement released by Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam.

The appointment of these four party functionaries is seen as inclusive representation, as Rajesh Shirwadkar and Ganesh Khaparkar have a Marathi background, Shweta Parulekar reflects women’s leadership, while Acharya Pawan Tripathi comes from a North Indian background and is the treasurer of the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple Trust. Together, this is seen as the party’s effort to reach out to several communities in Mumbai, essential for civic body elections.

The State Election Commission (SEC) is yet to announce the elections for municipal corporations, while the polls for Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishads are scheduled on December 2, for which the filing of nominations began on November 10.
