Rich tributes were paid to ‘Iron Man’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary by BJP leaders and activists, under the auspices of the party’s district president M.M.N. Parasurama Raju.

Mr. Raju described Sardar Patel as the man, who united India, with his relentless efforts in prevailing upon princely States to merge with the Indian Union after Independence. India attained Independence due to the efforts of several freedom fighters like Chandrasekhar Azad, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and Moulana Azad.

He alleged that it was unfortunate that post-Independence, sustained efforts were made by vested interests to project only one family while other freedom fighters were ignored and that the Modi government was making efforts to bring other freedom fighters and their families also into the limelight. He added that Sardar Patel not only fought against the British rule but had also led several movements to ensure the welfare of the people of the country.

BJP State secretary Ummidi Sujatha Raj, State treasurer M. Nagendra, Parvatipuram district in charge SVS Prakash Reddy, State media panellist KNP Chakravarthy and district secretary S. Dhaneswara Rao were among those who paid tributes.
