Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) on Friday (November 21) welcomed the decision of the Centre on implementation of the ‘long-awaited’ four Labour Codes, which were aimed at ensuring dignity, protection and progressive welfare of India’s workforce, according to a statement issued by BMS general secretary Ravindra Himte.

He noted that a BMS delegation had earlier called upon Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukhlal Mandaviya and submitted a detailed charter of demands on several labour-related issues, including certain concerns pertaining to the Labour Codes. The Minister had assured the delegation that all genuine concerns would be addressed, and if required, necessary steps, including placing amendments before the Parliament, would be taken.

The broadening of wage coverage beyond scheduled employment and extension of social security protection to new and unorganised sectors reflect forward-looking reforms aligned with the aspirations of the modern workforce.

Mr. Ravindra noted that the BMS was committed to the smooth implementation of the Labour Codes. It would continue to engage with the government all stakeholders to ensure that workers’ welfare remained the focus of the government. BMS national vice-president M. Jagadiswara Rao also hailed the decision.
