The bodies of V. Ravikumar, 47, and A. Sureshkumar, 42, who went missing from a temple near Veppilaipatti on October 31, were found inside a ring well under Appainaickenpatti police station limits near Sattur on Wednesday.

Police suspect that the two men could have been electrocuted to death after coming into contact with an illegally erected electric fence in a farmland along Arjuna River.

The owner of the farmland could have dumped their bodies in the ring well more than a km away from Gengaiamman temple where the deceased men had come to attend a marriage function from Thombakulam. The highly-decomposed bodies were retrieved and sent for post-mortem.

The police said the two men had gone to attend nature’s call in the early hours of Friday and did not return. Their relatives who returned home after attending the marriage realised that the two were missing and lodged a complaint at Appainaickenpatti police station on Friday.

In a recent incident reported under Elayirampannai police station limits on October 31, the body of R. Suresh, 40, of Kullursandhai, was recovered from an unused well at Vallampatti.

Suresh had gone for hunting on October 29 and was electrocuted to death when he came into contact with an illegal electric fence put up by a farmer, V. Narasimharaj, 47. Fearing police action, the farmer had dumped the Suresh’s body in the well.

It is said that rampant intrusion of wild boars that damage crops has forced farmers in Virudhunagar district to install illegal electric fencing.
