The Tamil Nadu Boiler and Boilers Components Manufacturers Association has urged Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan to use his good offices to get a special rehabilitation package sanctioned by the Centre for revival of the sick micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Tiruchi.
In a representation submitted to the Vice President recently, association Treasurer Rajappa Rajkumar said fabrication units in Tiruchi were known as one of the best fabrication hubs in South Asia for manufacture of boiler and boiler components. At one stage, Tiruchi was manufacturing more than 60% of the windmill towers required for the domestic market.
But most of 450-odd MSMEs went through difficult times due to various factors including the COVID 19 pandemic and reduction in orders from BHEL earlier. Many units turned sick and were struggling to revive themselves. Several representations were made to the government seeking steps for their revival.
Various studies were carried out by the Centre and a rehabilitation proposal was drawn by the Union Ministry of MSME. But unfortunately it had not been implemented. “Now the situation has completely changed and substantial orders have been placed with the MSMEs by BHEL and windmills. This has opened up huge business opportunities for the MSMEs in and around Tiruchi,” Mr.Rajkumar said.
The rehabilitation package would enable them leverage the opportunities presented by the flood of orders, he said and urged the Vice President to take up the case with the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.
The association had been demanding the implementation of the MSME notification for revival and restructuring of stressed MSMEs by banks . Some of the units had been auctioned illegally by banks by not following the mandatory rules, the association alleged and urged the government to reverse such decisions to enable the revival of those units too.
