With the commencement of Special Intensive Revision in Tamil Nadu, Booth Level Officers (BLO) have started reaching out to voters through a door-to-door enumeration process.

The enumeration process, which would go on till December 4, is the first stage of the SIR.

The initial stage encompasses BLOs visiting houses to hand over partially filled-in forms with details of the voters, and voters providing relevant details such as name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, telephone number, father/guardian’s name and photograph, mother’s name and photograph, wife’s name and voter’s ID with photo through the issued form.

A BLO in Thiruvadani Assembly Constituency said as per the instructions given to them, they would be visiting every house in their jurisdiction thrice to issue, verify and receive the completed forms. Further, the voter would also have to provide details of their name, ID with photo, relative name, relationship, district, State, Assembly Constituency, as per the previous intensive revision. Those not familiar with the details required for the SIR form could take their time and could produce the filled-in forms by December 4.

On those who miss the deadline for SIR registration, the officer said: “So far, we have not been instructed about those complications. Since everyone is aware of the crucial procedure, they are trying their best to collect the details for the SIR form. As we are visiting the houses multiple times, we will also be reminding them of the form and help them in gathering the information.”

In case the voter had changed their address to a different location and if the BLOs were able to contact them, the SIR forms would be given to them to cross-check the details.

“If the voters who had shifted from their original address have their votes in the new location falling in a different constituency, then their names in the previous place would be removed. But, if they have not changed their address to the new location, then their SIR form along with form 8 would be given to get their new registration done,” the officer said.

In rare circumstances, when the BLO could not contact the shifted voter, their name would be removed from the list. To get their names added, they should appeal to the authority concerned after December 9, the BLO added.
