Minor Irrigation Minister N.S. Boseraju held talks with Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and Industries Minister T.G. Bharat about constructing a bridge-cum-barrage across the Tungabhadra near Chikalapravi and Chikkamanchale in Raichur district.

Mr. Boseraju met both the Ministers at Amaravathi recently and sought cooperation from the Andhra Pradesh government for key irrigation projects that will help thousands of farmers in the border areas in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh as well.

Explaining the benefits of building such a facility for farmers of both States, Mr. Boseraju told the Andhra Pradesh Ministers that a majority of farmers depend on river water.

The proposed bridge-cum-barrage will irrigate dry land and help grow agricultural crops. If the neighbouring State extends its cooperation, long-term irrigation benefits will be available for farmers, Mr. Boseraju said.

“The Andhra Pradesh Ministers responded positively to the proposal and promised us that they will revert to us after thoroughly discussing it with their officers,” the Minister said.
