Brothers from Vellore arrested for cheating Rajapalayam man of ₹ 1.15 lakh

Rajapalayam South Police have arrested two brothers from Vellore district in connection with siphoning off ₹1.15 lakh from the bank account of a man in the guise of helping him to withdraw cash from an ATM.

The police identified the duo as Karthik,27, and his brother Parthiban,24, of Poigainavithampatti.

According to police, Ramesh, 57, of Mugilvannampillai Street in Rajapalayam had gone to an ATM to withdraw money on October 14.

Some stranger had attempted to help the man withdraw money. However, after getting his PIN, he cancelled the transaction claiming that the card was not working.

Later, he had switched the debit card of Ramesh and handed over some other ATM card. Subsequently, the accused had withdrawn ₹40,000 cash from his bank account using the stolen ATM card.

Besides, he had bought fireworks goods worth ₹75,000 swiping the same card.

Based on the complaint lodged by Ramesh, Rajapalayam South Police had traced the accused with the help of CCTV video footage.

The police said that the accused, both drivers, had indulged in similar crime incidents in Vellore, Arakkonam, Villupuram, Sivaganga and Palani.

The police have seized a car the accused had used for the crime.
