The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Avadi Police Commissionerate on Wednesday arrested two brothers on charges of cheating several persons.
According to the police, the accused, Manikandan and Velmurugan of Ayyappakkam, had borrowed ₹20 lakh in instalments from complainant Gopi’s father, Arunchalam of Ayapakkam. Of this, they repaid only ₹5 lakh, and did not return the remaining ₹15 lakh, despite repeated promises.
The brothers had also allegedly borrowed money as loans from several others.
₹53 lakh collected
They collected ₹53 lakh from these individuals and failed to return the money, thereby cheating them. Complaints were filed seeking appropriate legal action against the two accused.
