Farmers’ Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy blamed the BRS government for being “solely responsible for the land-related hardships faced by Telangana farmers”, and refuted former minister T. Harish Rao’s allegations regarding the implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act.
Mr. Kodanda Reddy said that the issues highlighted by Mr. Harish Rao were, in fact, created during the BRS regime through the introduction of the Dharani portal. He alleged that the BRS has no moral right to talk about farmers’ issues after handing over the crucial land and personal data of Telangana farmers to a US-based company.
The Congress government took immediate corrective measures with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy keeping his promise to discard Dharani and bringing in a transparent Bhu Bharati Act. The government regularised long-pending Sadabainama cases by getting the High Court stay vacated and ensuring their inclusion under Bhu Bharati.
The Dharani portal was transferred from private control to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to enhance transparency and accountability. The government also appointed village-level administrative officers and licensed surveyors to strengthen land administration.
Mr. Kodanda Reddy noted that the Farmers’ Commission had offered guidance to over 3,000 farmers, and the government had initiated examination of nine lakh applications received during revenue sabhas and an additional nine lakh Sadabainama applications pending since the previous dispensation.
