The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would expose the Backward Classes’ betrayal by the Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi as Mr. Gandhi was going round the country claiming that the party’s government in Telangana has given 42% reservation to BCs.
Speaking at a party meeting held here on Monday, working president of BRS K.T. Rama Rao said his party would keep the Congress’s betrayal before the people of the country. In case Mr. Gandhi was sincere, he must ensure as the Leader of the Opposition that the issue was taken up for discussion in Parliament.
He alleged that the Congress had made a bouquet of promises in the name of BC Declaration in Telangana but had failed to keep any of them to betray the BC communities. The Opposition party would build pressure on the government to allocate ₹20,000 crore for the Sub-Plan in the coming budget.
Party leaders Banda Prakash, V. Ravichandra, S. Madhusudhana Chary, V. Srinivas Goud and others said the Congress government had watered down the promised 42% quota to BCs by issuing GO 46 recently. The entire issue of BC reservation enhancement had become a mockery in the Congress rule, they said adding that the decision for taking up BC caste census was taken up by the BRS government itself and a Cabinet Sub-Committee too was formed.
The exercise taken up by the Congress government had reduced the numbers of BCs showing it at 46% against the actual 51%. Ultimately, the government had decided to go for gram panchayat polls with the old (existing) reservation system and to give 42% reservation to BCs by the party in the elections fought on non-party basis. They sought to know the link between the Cabinet decision and giving 42% reservation to BCs by the ruling party.
Later, Mr. Rama Rao held a meeting with BRS corporators in GHMC on the strategy to be adopted in the council meeting scheduled on Tuesday.
