Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud termed the proposed ‘Deeksha Divas’ of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) as a ‘new drama’ to mislead the people yet again, as public sentiment had turned sharply against its leadership.

Speaking at a press conference held at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday (November 28, 2025), he reiterated the Congress narrative on Telangana formation, terming the 2009 fast undertaken by BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao ‘pure drama’ and stating that Telangana was achieved solely due to the determination of Congress senior leader Sonia Gandhi and the sacrifices of youngsters.

He accused KCR of exploiting public emotions for political gains while his own family benefited the most. “KCR enjoyed power on the bodies of Telangana martyrs,” he remarked, adding that the former Chief Minister even took fluids at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) during his so-called hunger strike, evidence of which he claimed to possess.

The TPCC chief appealed to the people not to fall for what he called the “fake and misleading claims” of BRS. If the party truly was sincere, he said, its leaders should first pay homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives.

Citing defeats in Parliament, Assembly byelections including the recent Jubilee Hills byelection, Mr. Goud predicted that BRS would face the same fate in the upcoming local body polls. He also credited former Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy for maintaining peace and preventing untoward incidents during the Statehood transition.

Responding to criticism of recent DCC appointments, Mr. Goud said many MLAs in the past had also served as DCC presidents. He said the Congress government remained firmly committed to 42% reservations for Backward Classes and urged the public to question BRS and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on their stand regarding BC quota.
