The Railway Police took history-sheeter Devinder Singh alias ‘Bunty Chor’ into preventive detention in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

He was nabbed at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station after personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) spotted him and alerted the Railway Police.

He was taken into custody two days after the Ernakulam South Railway Police had detained him upon his arrival there. Devinder had reportedly told officers that he had come to meet an advocate regarding an old case and claimed he was unaware of the lawyer’s recent demise.

After being released in Ernakulam, he is believed to have travelled to Thiruvananthapuram. While he has given contradictory statements about his purpose of visit, the police have decided to keep him in custody until his statements can be fully verified.

Devinder had been convicted in a theft case in Thiruvananthapuram and served jail time in the Poojappura Central Prison.
