Burglars steal 40 sovereign gold jewellery from locked house

Burglars stole gold jewellery weighing 40 sovereigns from a locked house at Manamadurai here in the last week.

Police said, the house owner Mariyappan, 63, a retired teacher, was away in his native with his family in Virudhunagar for last 10 days.

When he returned home on Sunday afternoon, he found the lock broken and discovered that 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery, ₹15,000 in cash, and silver anklets were stolen from the cupboard.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the Manamadurai SIPCOT police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
