Camp elephant runs amok in Karnataka’s Gundlupet town

A camp elephant brought to Gundlupet taluk as part of a Forest Department operation to capture a tiger ran amok on Friday evening, triggering tense moments in Gundlupet town.

The elephant was seen running along the main road before entering the KSRTC bus stand. At one point, a motorist abandoned his vehicle and ran to safety as the elephant charged towards his direction.

According to sources, the elephant started to behave in such a manner after being stung by a swarm of wasps at the camp site.

Forest authorities are trying to bring the situation under control.
