Awareness camp

Residents in and around Manakkal village, Lalgudi were briefed on a host of activities using handmade paper and natural fibres at a district awareness camp co-hosted by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Chennai and the Department of Fashion Technology of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Tiruchi recently. In his address, R. Vasirajan, deputy director, KVIC, Chennai, elaborated on various schemes such as banana fibre extraction, bee-keeping, pottery, tailoring and incense stick production. He encouraged participants to generate new employment opportunities without harming the environment, turning every village into a small-scale industrial hub.

MoU on criminology, forensics education

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Srinivasan College of Arts and Science in Perambalur by the institution’s departments of Forensic Science, Criminology, and Police Administration with Criminology and Risk Analysis Team (CRAT), Bengaluru and Clue 4 Evidence Forensic Laboratory, Chennai recently. The MoU will enable students to receive practical training in forensic science and criminology, undertake research in criminal investigation, forensic evidence, and legal studies, among other fields. In his address, Texin Joel, legal consultant and trainer, CRAT,said that the aim of this field is to establish justice in society, develop scientific procedures to prevent crimes, and produce technically skilled professionals.

Agri-entrepreneurship in focus

The School of Agricultural Sciences and the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Agriculture College in Perambalur held an awareness programme on modern agri-entrepreneurship, freshers’ welcome celebration and the inauguration of the sixth Students’ Club recently. In his address, K. Saravanan, founder and director, Arms for Farmers, said that agriculture is one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors. Beyond traditional farming, technology, innovation, market research, quality production, value-added products, and export opportunities are opening new doors for agri-entrepreneurship. Pursuing higher education and research in these areas will help students compete globally. Over 1,000 students from the Agriculture Colleges participated in the event.

ISTE student chapter launched

The student chapter of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) was inaugurated at Sir Issac Newton College of Engineering and Technology in Pappakoil, Nagapattinam recently. Group chairman T. Ananth, in his address, spoke about the objectives of ISTE and its vital role in promoting professional excellence. He encouraged students to participate in professional bodies and technical forums actively.

Degree certificates for the students qualified in the academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24 to receive their degrees were distributed at the Convocation ceremony held at the Government Arts College (Autonomous) at Kumbakonam last week. A total of 2,787 students received their degree certificates from the Higher Education Minister, Govi. Chezhiaan who participated as the Chief Guest and the Joint Director, Collegiate Education, Thanjavur Zone, A.Gunasekaran addressed the students.

National song anniversary

The 8th Battalion of the National Cadet Corps of the Government Arts College along with the NCC cadets of Government College for Women, Arasu Engineering College, Arignar Anna Government Higher Secondary School, and Town Higher Secondary School, participated in the 150th anniversary of the national song – ‘Vande Mataram’ and planted tree saplings at the campus.

HR conclave held

Integrating advanced technology and innovative practices to enhance organisational effectiveness were the focus of the ‘HR 5.0 Conclave’ organised jointly the National HRD Network, Thanjavur Chapter at the School of Management, SASTRA recently. Panel discussions on ‘Human-Centric Workforce Transformation’, ‘Building a Culture of Innovation and Adaptability’ and ‘Tech-driven HR: Leveraging AI, Analytics and Automation’ formed part of the conclave.
