Rajan, a male Cape buffalo, which was 26 years and five months, died at the Mysuru zoo on Tuesday evening.
The animal had been brought to the zoo from the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo in August 2011.
Zoo Executive Director P Anusha said the buffalo died of multi-organ failure brought on by old age. The zoo management has mourned its death.
Cape buffaloes are native to regions of Southern and East Africa.
