Owners and drivers of private ambulances, which were pressed into service for transporting the injured and bodies of those killed during the stampede during the rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam at Velasamypuram in Karur on September 27, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team here on Thursday.

According to sources, the CBI team had summoned them for an inquiry. Of the summoned persons, six persons turned up for the inquiry. They were reportedly quizzed by the officials on the call details received by them, time of arrival at the stampede site, the number of injured or dead transported by them and the specific places where they picked up the injured or the dead.
