A high-level delegation from the Central Water Commission (CWC) visited the Polavaram project on Friday to review the progress and quality of the ongoing construction works.
The team, comprising Aditya Sharma, Member (Designs & Research Wing) of the CWC, Chief Engineer S.S. Bakhshill, and Polavaram Project Authority Member-Secretary M. Raghuram, conducted a detailed inspection of various components of the project.
At the project viewpoint, the engineers presented a comprehensive update on the construction status and current phase-wise progress. The team later visited the model dam, where they were briefed on the design, structure, and functional components of the project.
The delegation also inspected the spillway, closely examining the gates, hydraulic cylinders, and power packs used for gate operations. They reviewed the condition of the upstream cofferdam, assessed Gap-1 works, checked the diaphragm wall zones, and examined the ongoing construction at the hydropower station.
The visiting team interacted extensively with ground-level officials, sought clarifications, and reviewed engineering parameters to assess the quality and pace of construction.
Senior engineers from the Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Department, including ENC K. Narasimhamurthy, Polavaram SE K. Ramachandra Rao, Quality Control CE K. Seshubabu, and DEs K. Balakrishna, D. Srinivas, and Premchand were present.
Representatives from MEIL, including GM A. Gangadhar and DGM Murali Pammi, explained the technical aspects of the ongoing works.
