The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities and corruption in the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector recruitment examination.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Centre has granted the necessary approval for this investigation.

At present, the Crime Branch of the State Government is investigating the case following serious allegations of large-scale irregularities and corruption in the recruitment examination.

Since the corruption trail was found to have spread beyond Odisha to other states, including Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, the Mohan Majhi Government had recommended a CBI inquiry into the recruitment scam. There were suspicions of involvement by inter-state organised criminal networks.

Mr. Majhi had insisted for a comprehensive and impartial investigation. Acting on the CM’s request, the Centre has now directed the CBI to take up the probe, said CMO in a statement.

The CBI will investigate all aspects of the alleged corruption, including the conspiracy, inducements, and efforts made to manipulate the recruitment process.

It needs to be mentioned that more than 100 candidates for the police job were arrested while they were being taken by scamsters for release of possible questions in recruitment examinations. The candidates had reportedly paid around Rs. 10 lakh each for getting job through illegal means.
