The Centre has agreed to establish an apex research institute for yoga and naturopathy in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of ₹750 crore, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Satya Kumar Yadav said on Monday.

In a statement released to the media on November 10, the Minister said the institute would function under the Central government on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The institute, to be set up by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy under the Ministry of AYUSH, will offer an undergraduate course in Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science. In the first year, it will have an intake of 100 UG seats and 20 PG seats.

A 450-bed naturopathy hospital equipped with modern facilities and a Research and Training Centre will also be established as part of the project. The Central government has written to the State government requesting the allotment of 40 acres of land for the institution, the Minister said.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for responding positively to his request, Mr. Yadav said that while several national medical institutions under the AYUSH Ministry are already functioning in various States, the upcoming institute in Andhra Pradesh would operate at a higher level.

He added that the Central government is also planning to establish a Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy near Nadimpalem, close to Katuri Medical College in Prathipadu mandal of Guntur district, with an investment of ₹100 crore. The State government has allocated 12.96 acres for this project, which will focus solely on providing medical services.

In Visakhapatnam, construction of a naturopathy college is under way with joint funding from the Central and State governments. From the academic year 2026–27, the Centre is expected to approve 100 seats for admission to the Naturopathy course in this college.

Following Central approval, new integrated AYUSH hospitals will be established across the State, including the upcoming Ayurveda Medical College at Dharmavaram, the Minister said.
