Chadwick Boseman will be immortalised on the Hollywood Walk of Fame five years after his death. The late actor, celebrated globally for his portrayal of King T’Challa in Black Panther, will receive the honour on November 20, with the ceremony taking place at Hollywood Blvd.

Boseman died in August 2020 at age 43 following a private four-year battle with colon cancer. His death stunned audiences and colleagues alike, many of whom were unaware he had continued working through treatment while delivering some of his most acclaimed performances. His wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, is expected to accept the honour on his behalf.

The tribute will be accompanied by speeches from director Ryan Coogler, who helmed Black Panther, and Viola Davis, Boseman’s co-star in his final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Both worked closely with the actor and have spoken often of his integrity, discipline and generosity. “His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world,” Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in a statement.

Boseman’s career flourished long before he arrived in Wakanda. He broke out with a commanding turn as Jackie Robinson in 42, followed by electrifying portraits of James Brown in Get On Up and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall. His posthumous performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom earned him Oscar and BAFTA nominations, as well as Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild wins.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Boseman appeared not only in Black Panther but also in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Following his death, Marvel chose not to recast or digitally recreate T’Challa, instead shaping Wakanda Forever around the character’s legacy.

The ceremony will be streamed live on WalkOfFame.com
