Champa Shashti, the special day dedicated to the serpent god Naga, was celebrated across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Wednesday.

People cutting across religions accord much significance to Nagaradhane in the region with the presence of hundreds of Naga Banas (mini forests). Champa Shashti is celebrated to offer special pujas and prayers to Lord Subrahmanya.

At Kukke Subrahmanya, Chikka Ratha and Brahma Ratha were drawn by thousands of devotees. While the Utsava Murthy of Lord Umamaheshwara was seated on the small chariot, that of Lord Subrahmanya was placed on the grand chariot. After the Suvarna Vrushti and Chikka Ratha procession, the Champa Shashti Brahma Ratha was drawn. Special rituals were later performed at the Shashti Katte and the inner sanctorum of the temple.

Minister for Transport and Muzrai Ramalinga Reddy was among the dignitaries participating in the Champa Shashti Rathotsava at pilgrim centre Kukke Subrahmanya in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.

Minister for Transport and Muzrai Ramalinga Reddy, Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya, Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan, temple managing committee president Harish Injadi, executive officer Aravind Aiyappa Sutagundi, and others were present.

Meanwhile the Champa Shashti was celebrated with the rathotsava at Kudupu Ananthapadmanabya Temple near Mangaluru, another prominent Naga Kshetra in the region. The event was celebrated at the Subrahmanya temple in Muchlakodu, Udupi, among several other Naga Kshetras in the region.

The Champa Shashti Rathotsava was conducted at pilgrim centre Kudupu in Mangaluru on Wednedays.
