The Vanchiyoor police have submitted a chargesheet against advocate Beyline Das who was accused of assaulting a junior woman lawyer earlier this year.
Beyline was accused of manhandling the complainant at his office on May 13. He allegedly slapped her multiple times and hit her using a mop stick, resulting in significant facial injuries.
He was charged under various provisions including Sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty) and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The accused was taken into custody from near Thumba three days after the purported incident.
Following the incident, the Bar Council of Kerala initiated disciplinary proceedings and barred the accused from appearing before any court. He was also suspended from the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association.
The chargesheet will be formally read out at Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Court XI on January 23.
