Tiruvanmiyur Police in Chennai arrested a 56-year-old man for posting defamatory content about a woman on social media.
According to police, a 30-year-old woman from the Adyar police district lodged a complaint at the Tiruvanmiyur Police Station stating that an animal rights activist named Muralidharan had been posting defamatory messages about her on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, misusing her name and photos.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act (TNPHW Act) and the Information Technology Act (IT Act) and initiated an investigation.
A police team conducted a detailed inquiry and arrested Muralidharan (56) of Kottur, Chennai on November 22, 2025, in connection with the case. A mobile phone was seized from him.
After interrogation, the arrested accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody, said the city police in a press release.
