The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has cancelled its tender inviting private parties for conservancy operations in Tondiarpet and Anna Nagar Zones after receiving four bids on November 28, 2025. The GCC stated that revised work specifications, updated financial estimates, and expanded service components were necessary.

Both zones comprised dense neighbourhoods with narrow streets, major commercial hubs, high-rise residences, burial grounds, parks and sports facilities, according to a press release.

The Corporation said the earlier tender document did not correspond to current service requirements. A fresh tender would be issued with updated clauses to reflect present operational needs, the release said.

Public and representative requests required the addition of maintenance of cemeteries, parks, and sports grounds to the contract, it added.
