Chikkaballapura truck driver convicted for life for raping his mother

The Chikkaballapura Additional District and Sessions Court convicted a 30-year-old truck driver for allegedly raping his 65-year-old mother and sentenced him to life term imprisonment and a fine of ₹25,000.

The convict, Ashoka, is the third among three children of the victim, and was living with his parents after his wife deserted him within a few months of marriage. Ashok was allegedly a chronic alcoholic and abusive.

In August 2024, he allegedly came home drunk and dragged his mother to the backyard of the house while she was sleeping. The victim resisted and raised an alarm, following which the accused allegedly assaulted her and raped her near a garbage dump. The victim was bleeding and cried for help. By the time her husband, who was sleeping inside the house came to her rescue, Ashok had fled from the scene.

The victim was later taken to Gudibande Government Hospital for treatment. Based on her statement, the police registered a case under voluntarily causing hurt,using criminal force on a woman with the intent to disrobe her or force her to be naked and rape. The police later tracked down the accused and remanded him to judicial custody.
