Thanks to the timely intervention of the officials concerned, a child marriage was stopped in Thangallapalli mandal headquarters in Rajanna Sircilla district on Monday morning.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Childline Helpline ‘1098’, the officials of the Women Development and Child Welfare Department along with volunteers and the local police rushed to the marriage hall and stopped the marriage of a 17 years and six months old minor girl with a local youth a few hours before the scheduled ‘muhurtham’, sources said.
Officials conducted counselling for the parents of both the minor girl and the youth and obtained written undertakings from them against performing child marriage.
