The dilapidated children’s park at Aliyar reservoir is getting a facelift at an estimated outlay of ₹40 lakh, officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD) said.
Visitors to this tourism destination, about 50 km from Coimbatore, come from neighbouring districts and from Palakkad in Kerala as well and they used to visit the reservoir and Kaviaruvi falls known as Monkey falls before reaching Valparai. In the lower reaches of the reservoir, a children’s park is in ruins owing to lack of proper maintenance.
The WRD of the Public Works Department had begun the renovation works about two weeks ago. As part of the works, the deer, tiger, lion and fish idols are getting a facelift and the vegetations have been cleared up to 60 per cent. The remaining vegetations will be cleared in a month.
The decorative structures at the park are being renovated and for the convenience of the visiting tourists, two sanitation complexes are also getting ready. All these works will be almost over by December.
