Chittoor district police celebrated the 63rd Home Guards Raising Day at AR Parade Grounds, here on Saturday. Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi took the guard of honour and praised the home guards for their disciplined parade.
Addressing the gathering, the SP said that the home guards organisation, initially conceived in 1946, was officially established on December 6, 1963, with the purpose of allowing committed citizens to assist in community policing. He commended them for collaborating with the police for more than 60 years, contributing significantly to preserving law and order, night surveillance, traffic control, disaster response, and CCTNS activities. He added that their dedication frequently equalled the professionalism demonstrated by police officers.
The SP encouraged them to maintain discipline, refrain from corruption, and to keep offering focused services. He guaranteed that any service-related concerns would be handled promptly if reported to officers.
During the festivities, 13 home guards were honoured with medals for ‘Very Good’ service. Athletic competitions were also held for children of home guards, from Class X to PG, and were given certificates.
After the parade, the SP launched a memorial procession, which passed through the arterial junctions of the municipal corporation, culminating at the district police office. The SP said that the department was committed to implementing multiple welfare programmes, such as monetary aid for death and retirement situations, maternity leave, merit-based scholarships, healthcare support, accident insurance, and reservation privileges, for hiring in police and related departments.
