The residents around Electronics City and Anekal in the southern outskirts of the city on Saturday submitted a memorandum to the tahsildar demanding repair and asphalting of severely deteriorated roads in the neighbourhood.

Before submitting the petition, more than 50 people walked from Anekal government college ground to the tahsildar office for about 1.5 km to draw attention to the issues. The memorandum highlights the poor condition of key roads and the growing hardships faced by thousands of commuters, residents, and farmers.

According to the petition, villages and residential lanes under the Hebbagodi City Municipal Council, Bommasandra, and Chandapura Town Municipal Council have sub-par infrastructure. The residents alleged that even the most basic facilities have been neglected.

Further, they claimed that most arterial and connecting roads have not been repaired for nearly five years, forcing daily travel on pothole-ridden stretches. Due to dust, commuters were reportedly suffering from respiratory illnesses and other health issues.

“Even ambulances get stuck in these roads during emergencies,” the memorandum said. “Farmers are also facing difficulties transporting produce to the APMC fruit market due to poor road conditions,” it added.

The residents urged the tahsildar to convene a meeting with officials concerned, conduct inspections, and draw the attention of the government to the urgent need for action. They gave a two-month deadline to address their grievances, failing which the residents warned that they would hold a large-scale protest.
