CITU State conference to be held in Coimbatore from November 6

The 16th State Conference of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Tamil Nadu, will be conducted from November 6 to 9 at the S.N.R. Auditorium in Coimbatore.

Briefing reporters in Coimbatore on Sunday, M. Chandran, vice-president of the CITU Tamil Nadu unit, said senior trade union leader and former MP T.K. Rangarajan would inaugurate a historical exhibition on November 5, highlighting the evolution of the trade union movement and CITU’s role in advancing workers’ rights. The conference will open on November 6 with participation from about 750 delegates representing districts across the State. CITU general secretary Tapan Sen, All-India president K. Hemalata, and senior State leaders will address the sessions. The delegates’ meeting will elect new office-bearers and a State executive committee.

A workers’ rally will be held in the city on November 9, starting near Avarampalayam junction and concluding at Sivananda Colony, followed by a public meeting.

Mr. Chandran said the conference will review organisational activities and adopt resolutions seeking job security, an eight-hour workday, abolition of contract labour, a minimum wage of ₹26,000, and equal pay for equal work.
