City hospital launches institute of robotic surgery

Billroth Hospitals on Saturday launched its Institute of Robotic Surgery.

According to a press release, the facility will use “SSi Mantra 3”, an Indianmade  surgical robot, designed by SS Innovations. The robotic platform will be deployed across oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, thoracic surgery, and complex general surgery specialisations.

S.M. Sivaraj, surgical gastroenterologist, said, “In the future, robotics will be the standard of care for major surgeries. It will be ideal for complex surgeries as it has high precision.”

Hospital chairman Rajesh Jeganathan; vice-president Deepa T.; surgical gastroenterologist G. Kumaragurubaran; gynaecologists Jayalakshmi and Divya; gastroenterologists Sankar Narayanan and Padam Kumar; urologist A.C. Mani; and cardiothoracic vascular surgeon Bharathguru were present.
