Civil engineer murdered at construction site in Karaikudi

A 36-year-old engineer was hacked to death in Karaikudi here on Monday.

The police said Palaniyappan, 36, a construction engineer from Pon Nagar in Karaikudi, had built and rented out shops in the Ariyakudi and Iluppakudi areas. As he was supervising the construction of a new house at Pon Nagar, a gang of three, who arrived on a two-wheeler, hacked him to death with a sickle and fled the spot.

Alagappapuram police registered a case and are investigating. Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the murder was committed because of enmity, the police added.
