In the midst of ongoing talk on leadership change in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy D.K. Shivakumar will participate in the “vote chori” (voter theft) protest in New Delhi on Sunday.

According to official schedules, Mr. Shivakumar travelled to Delhi on Saturday, and Mr. Siddarmaiah would leave for Delhi on Sunday morning. Both leaders are expected to participate in the protest in the national capital against alleged vote theft during the 2024 Parliamentary polls.

The Congress began the protest against the “vote theft” campaign against the Election Commission of India at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on August 8.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, who led a protest rally in Bengaluru, would take the lead in Sunday’s rally in Delhi. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy is expected to take a group of loyal legislators to Mr. Shivakumar to Delhi.

Close to 3,000 party workers and 30 legislators from Karnataka are expected to participate in the protest.

Mr. Shivakumar, who is also the KPCC chief, said Mr. Gandhi started the fight against vote theft in Karnataka. “We had exposed voter data theft back in the 2023 Legislative Assembly elections and lodged complaints with the Election Commission,” he said.

Speaking on the vote theft case in the Aland constituency ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, which has now been chargesheeted by the SIT, he said MLAs will raise this in the Assembly session on Monday. “This is not just the voice of Karnataka but of the entire country”.
